The Twisted and Modern Tale of Hansel and Gretel

The Asylum has again produced and released another spin to a fairy tale classic. The story of siblings Hansel and Gretel takes a modern turn, but it is no less dark and twisted in every way. The film stars Dee Wallace as a sickeningly sweet bakery owner who harbors deep dark secrets and dabbles in supernatural learning. Gretel, played by Stephanie Greco, is the one and only star employee in the bakeshop and her brother Hansel, played by Brent Lydric, are in for a world of horror and trauma. Not only does Hansel struggle with the loss of their mother and dealing with their father’s marriage to a much younger woman, they both find out that there’s more to the bakeshop’s menu and the owner is very hungry.

Creepy Contrast

The best part of this movie is definitely Dee Wallace’s performance. Cast as the evil villain instead of her typical motherly roles, they turn the tables around which makes the twist of her being a cannibalistic witch even more frightening. Her portrayal of the role is so brilliant that her sickeningly sweet attitude in the beginning will draw you in just to watch the total reversal of attitude.

You Won’t Be Disappointed

The lure of this already dark tale is how Hansel and Gretel are fooled by The Witch with the promise of treats and a better life, only to be cooked into supper instead. We all know how this eventually ends and this version of the classic tale does not fail to give you the ending you want. If you’re ready to give this film a chance, you can watch free movies online. Or if you’re looking for something that isn’t as hair raising as a sweet lady going cannibalistic, there are a number of other choices when watch movies online for free.
